Neurotic Much?
16 May, 201016 May, 2010 3 comments Uncategorized Uncategorized

If there's one thing I cannot stand, it's being called blonde simply because the red in my hair is starting to fade.

I recently had my hair done because I felt like something different. It's now short and a darker red (although it wasn't a permanent colouring so it's fading back to its original).

At uni one day I was procrastinating homework and trolling the net when I came across M.I.A's new music video in which male gingers are brutally murdered. I have no idea what the relevance between the song and the video was but that's for another blog.

Anyway, I made some comment about the video expressing my displeasure when one of my classmates pipes up,

"what are you complaining about? You've only been a redhead for a week!"

Boy was I mad. For some reason I truly dislike people thinking I'm not a redhead. Maybe I'm just neurotic.

My rather testy reply was "actually, I've been a redhead since birth" and asked if she wanted to see my fire crotch as proof.

Then I proceeded to offend her blonde stupidity.

Neurotic much?

Ah! I am so glad I'm not the only person like this. I used to be a college student, it's a long and boring story, but to cut it short we used to have some classes in a dark artificially lit lab (the lighting was also poor). My teacher once said "I can see you have brown hair..." during a 1-1 tutorial on genetics. I was like "ahem." But didn't say anything. The thing is mine gets it's colour from natural highlights, red and blonde. But it also has black hair mixed in. So in dim/artificial lighting it looks brown. Even mum once said to me recently, "but you're not a redhead". Yet the other weekend my hair was showing orange hues quite strongly and she called me "ginger!!!!". So controversial.

But I really, really hate people saying I have brown hair; especially as it is a mix of red, blonde and black! ;D When it happens I think - "If only I was outside now". Outdoors, especially when it is sunny, you can see the natural reds. I guess it doesn't help that my eyebrows are brown, though. When I was a baby (at around 6 months) my hair was red-brown....but I was never seen as redhead because I was born with black hair.

I blame it all on the common shampoos/conditioners which have a reputation for dulling blonde/red hair and turning it to the universal colour; dark brown. Since I stopped using it, I have seen the red hair growing back again. :D

But yea- I HATE being called anything other than redhead (or auburn, I guess, as I have red-brown now). I also hate it when other girls around me dye their hair orange then proceed to state that 'I' am not naturally red. The cheek! hehe. :P

All your photos look pretty darned red to me. :-)

Does that pomegranate work well then? I got a sample of that at Roodharigendag and meant to let my dad try it. I do use John Freida repairing now, but just because I need an excellent conditioner.
